An instant-quote calculator

A calculator on your site that answers the "roughly how much?" question the moment it's asked. The customer gets a ballpark on the spot, and you get their details and a warm lead.

Why it matters

The "how much?" call is the one that clogs your phone and often goes nowhere. Answering it instantly on the site keeps the serious enquiries and their contact details, and lets the rest filter themselves out.

It does something useful even when nobody submits it. The person who works out you are well outside their budget leaves without ringing, and the person who sees a number they are comfortable with arrives at the phone call already halfway to a yes.

How it works

  1. The customer picks a few options: job type, size, urgency.
  2. It returns a ballpark price built from your own pricing logic.
  3. It captures their contact details while they're keen, and filters out tyre-kickers.

What changes day to day

The customer answers three or four questions, no more, and gets a range rather than a fixed figure, with a plain line saying the real quote follows a proper look at the job. Their details come through to you along with what they picked, so the callback starts from something specific instead of starting cold.

This is for you if

  • Your phone rings all day with "how much for..." questions.
  • You spend time quoting jobs that were never going to happen.
  • Customers want a ballpark before they'll commit to a real quote.

Worth knowing

  • Give a range and say plainly that it is indicative. An exact number you cannot honour costs you more than the enquiry was worth.
  • Keep it to a handful of questions. Long forms get abandoned halfway through.
  • Revisit the pricing logic whenever your costs move, or it will quietly go stale on you.
