An FAQ that answers the phone for you

You answer the same ten questions every day: do you cover my area, how much roughly, how soon can you come. Put those answers on the site, where customers look first, and the phone rings less for the routine stuff.

Why it matters

Every "quick question" call is an interruption mid-job, and the customer who cannot find the answer often just rings the next business instead. A clear FAQ answers them the moment they ask, day or night, and only the real enquiries reach your phone.

It pays off in search as well. The questions people ring you about are the same questions they type into Google, so answering them properly on your own site is one of the few pieces of writing that both saves you calls and brings new ones in.

How it works

  1. We list the questions you actually get asked, over and over.
  2. They go on the site as clear answers, easy to find and search-friendly.
  3. Routine questions get answered without you, and only real jobs ring through.

What changes day to day

You spend twenty minutes listing the questions you actually get, in the words customers use rather than the words you would use. Each one gets a short, straight answer, including the awkward ones about price and timing. Then when someone rings anyway, you have a link to send instead of repeating yourself from the top of a ladder.

This is for you if

  • You answer the same handful of questions all day.
  • Customers ring for things that could be a line on your site.
  • After-hours questions go unanswered until you are back.

Worth knowing

  • Answer the money and timing questions. Dodging them is exactly why people ring.
  • Write it in the customer's words. Nobody searches using your internal terminology.
  • Review it twice a year. A wrong answer sitting on your site is worse than no answer at all.
